Cool Coconut Snowballs

michele klee greulich coco snoballsWhen the holidays roll around, you can bet my hands will be rolling around in flour, butter and sugar. This dates back to my snow- deprived childhood in Southern California, when my mom discovered this small but helpful set of hands that might not have had real snow to play with, but was eager to learn “how to” and could assist in holiday baking traditions. Baking in the heat of summer doesn’t exactly conjure up images of sugarplums,  but when the Christmas season arrives, I’m sure to be mixing up batches of cookie dough, a fine cloud of flour and sugar “snow” transforming my kitchen into a winter wonderland,  these mitts working feverishly ’til the wee hours creating plates of sweets to exchange with friends and family.

Here’s a recipe for Coconut Snowballs which I submitted a while back to They Draw and Cook, a site dedicated to all those who create in kitchens and/ or studios. This particular recipe was sent in response to a call out to artists to submit their favorite holiday cookie recipes to the site of  brother and sister creative dynamic duo Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell. Originally combining their interests in creating a book of illustrated recipes, they invited artists out on the web to join them.  The word spread and now this collection of illustrated recipes has grown to include several more books and prints. Their website indexes all meal types categorized by very detailed search options, one of the largest in the world.

Visit They Draw and Cook and you will be sure to find more cookies, kitchen inspiration and a lot of sweet eye candy, too!
